Practical Guide: Tricks For Cleaning Vinyl Carpets And Others

Whatever rises must inevitably fall?

It is an inflexible law that only astronauts can disobey and which is called the Law of Gravity.

And this is very serious for vinyl and any other type of mat because since they are on the floor, anything that is likely to fall or stain will fall on them. You do not have to take it badly, nor is it that the law of gravity hates you: it is that they have made it that way because it’s worth it.

That is why we need practical advice on how to clean carpets and how to react to each type of stain and each type of material. Because it is not the same to clean a vinyl rug as it is cleaning a yarn or bamboo rug. And for that, we leave you here with some super practical ideas and tricks for cleaning carpets. We at DAM CarpetWash will help you with this since we pride ourselves on being specialists in carpet cleaning and work to offer a high-quality service at a reasonable cost. We have years of experience in professional carpet cleaning.

For carpet cleaning, and as a general rule, regardless of the material in question, here are some rules:

5 Rules of carpet cleaning

Clean the carpet stain before it dries, whenever possible.

Test products that are going to be applied in an inconspicuous place first and check the result before applying it to the entire carpet or to a clearly visible part.

Do not apply the products directly on the carpet but on a clean cloth with which we will attack the stain.

Try not to rub: just press with a cloth or sponge and warm water, and avoid soaking the base of the carpet with the cleaning liquid.

As far as possible, dry the carpet. Do not hesitate to use a dryer.

This is a general rule. However, depending on the material of the carpet and the type of stain, carpet cleaning solutions may vary, since, as we told you, cleaning a vinyl carpet has nothing to do with cleaning a cotton one.

Therefore, we'll examine the situation now.

Carpet Cleaning by Types

1) Cleaning Synthetic Fibre Rugs Such as Vinyl, Polypropylene, or Polyester

Synthetic rugs, such as vinyl, polypropylene, or recycled plastic rugs, generally have the advantage that their fibres do not absorb liquids or substances, so dirt does not penetrate into the fabric. Stains are easier to get rid of as a result.

Coffee, Wine, and Oil Stains: Absorb with kitchen paper and clean with lukewarm water and neutral soap.

Paint And Marker Pen Stains: Apply acetone or white spirit and rinse with warm water and detergent.

       Nail Polish Stains: Apply acetone.

Chocolate Stains: Absorb with kitchen paper and apply neutral soap; rinse with warm water and detergent. Note: it is better to eat the chocolate beforehand, so, in addition to not staining the carpet, we have a good time.

Milk Stains: Apply lukewarm water, neutral soap, and a splash of vinegar.

Shoe Polish, Shoe Cream, and Lipstick Stains: Apply water with shampoo, rinsing with lukewarm water with a little detergent.

Note: When vinyl mats have digitally printed parts, we must not apply alcohol, acetone, or similar agents, which could damage the printed layer. Clean these parts with neutral soap and water, and if necessary, try more aggressive agents on a small, inconspicuous part to check the effect.

2) Cleaning of Carpets Made of Vegetable And Natural Fibres Such as Jute

Natural and organic rugs are more delicate and complicated than synthetic ones. But it is still possible to remove stains with these tips.

As a general rule, cleaning must be done primarily with a vacuum cleaner. If you have to apply liquids, try to remove as much moisture as possible and aerate the soil before placing it there.

If the stains are stubborn or difficult, we have these other solutions:

Butter And Wax Stains: Apply neutral soap with a splash of vinegar and lukewarm water.

Grease Stains: Apply absorbent paper, then alcohol (from a pharmacy, a 12-year-old whiskey is not worth it, and even if it was, it would be a shame). When the alcohol evaporates, apply warm water with neutral soap and a splash of vinegar.

Paint Stains: Neutral soap with lukewarm water, let dry, scrape, and vacuum.

Chocolate, Honey, and Jam Stains: Clean with a splash of ammonia dissolved in a glass of warm water. What a shameful cake that we had made!

Egg, Coffee, and Tea Stains: Apply mild soap, cold water, and a splash of vinegar or ammonia to the carpet.

Red Wine Stains: Clean with 50% vinegar and water. It is advisable to smack the person responsible for wasting good wine like this.

Lipstick Stains: Neutral soap and lukewarm water.

Nail Polish And Glue Stains: Apply acetone or alcohol.

Blood stains: Neutral soap should be applied mixed with a splash of ammonia, another of vinegar, and lukewarm water. (Very useful advice for serial killers).

Vomit And Mud: Allow to dry, scrape carefully, and aspirate. Then apply lukewarm water with a splash of ammonia.

3) Acrylic Carpet Cleaning

Coffee, Wine, and Milk Stains: Absorb with kitchen paper and clean with warm water, detergent, and a splash of vinegar.

Chocolate Stains: Absorb with kitchen paper and apply liquid soap, then dry foam and brush.

Oil Stains: Absorb with kitchen paper, apply dry foam, then liquid soap and finally rinse with a damp cloth.

Shoe Polish, Shoe Cream, and Lipstick Stains: Apply liquid soap and press. To rinse, apply only lukewarm water.

Nail Polish Stains: Apply acetone, then dry foam and brush.

Paint And Marker Pen Stains: Apply acetone or white spirit and rinse with lukewarm water, detergent and a splash of vinegar.

4) Wool Carpet Cleaning

For Fruit, Juice, Soft Drinks, Beer, Spirits and Wine Stains: Use water, neutral soap and a splash of vinegar.

For stains of chocolate, cocoa, ice cream, eggs, coffee, tea, milk, sauces, blood and vomit: Use mild soapy water and a splash of vinegar and then dry cleaning solvent.

Stains From Chewing Gum, Lipstick, Paint, Urine Or Excrement:

They are cleaned by first applying solvent for dry cleaning and then warm water with neutral soap and a splash of vinegar and finishing again with the solvent.

Wax, cream, bitumen, oil, grease, butter, tar or pen stains: Clean with alcohol or gasoline, apply the product to a cloth and then gently apply it to the stain, without rubbing, from the outside to the inside of the stain.

Wax, Cream, Bitumen, Oil, Grease, Butter, Tar Or Pen Stains: Clean with alcohol or gasoline, apply the product to a cloth and then gently apply it to the stain, without rubbing, from the outside to the inside of the stain.

The nail lacquer will be cleaned off with acetone and the mud will be allowed to dry, carefully scraped off and cleaned with water and a splash of ammonia.

5) Cleaning Bamboo Mats

In general, bamboo rugs are easy to clean and do not require great care. These are the basic instructions:

Bamboo rugs usually have a light varnish covering the wood, so in case of stubborn stains, apply a little neutral soap diluted in warm water. Remember that any product used must be applied to a clean, dry cloth and preferably white to eliminate any risk of colour transfer.

The stains have to be cleaned at the moment so that there is no trace of them. To do this, if it is a spilt liquid, you must first absorb as much liquid as possible with kitchen paper and then apply the diluted soap.

If the stain has not been caused by a liquid, it will be necessary to pick up the product from the stain with the help of a brush and the same absorbent kitchen paper. Make sure that the brush has soft bristles so as not to scratch the varnish. Finally, apply the diluted neutral soap.

For either of the two types of stain, it is essential to wet the carpet as little as possible and if the back has gotten wet, do not put it back on the floor until we have completely dried it, with a dryer if necessary. It is also worth putting it upright and waiting for it to dry naturally.

You see how many things can stain the carpets. But the important thing is that we have a remedy for each stain and that we know how to act quickly and decisively before avoiding disaster.
