Most
dads are great storytellers, and they can be quite cocky. Although some of the
stories may be silly, laugh anyway. Please don't deny your Pop that incredible
feeling of looking like the funniest person ever. He will probably tell the
joke repeatedly but laugh like you are hearing them for the first time. Apart
from that, fathers strive valiantly to ensure you get a meaningful future.
If
you turned out to be an honorable man, you must be a better version of your old
man. And If you are a woman, dad is forever your hero, and you will always
remain his little girl. It's only prudent for married couples to pay homage to
their dads as they consider gifts
for father in law, as well.
If
you had a dad or a father figure while growing up, then I hope you have some
exciting story you can tell about him. As for me, here are some fond memories
of life spend well with Pops that made me admire and honor him throughout his
life:
HANDYMAN
Back
in the days when growing up, we had some damn serious games as kids, unlike
what you see today with children. Peek-a-boo was a serious affair, and it would
take minutes before you found your friends. Let's say we had the best spot to
hide, and it took longer to see each other. Although this could have been
risky, I used to hide in a building that daddy was constructing, and I would
watch how articulate he was with his hands and tools. All his workers admired
him for his expertise, which made me feel like he is the smartest dad ever.
A PHOTOPHILE
Although
there were no smartphones and selfie-sticks to take photos in my dad's era,
camcorders and photo studios were there. Pops loved taking us to the studio to
pose for a family portrait. All of us would wear our Sunday best, and mom would
ensure we all looked snazzy. As dad loved the camera, it loved him back because
he was so photogenic. I am the only one who didn't like taking photos, and I would
always make a face.
As
my wife knew this story very well, she decided to use this as one of the father's gifts in law. He
bought a digital photo frame and added all these pictures and sent them to dad.
He was thrilled.
RELIGIOUS MAN
Dad
taught us from an early stage that having a relationship with our creator was
the essential thing in life. He was a staunch roman catholic, and he followed
everything from the book-from baptism to Sunday school and attending catechism
classes.
Attending
masses on Sunday was not a choice, but a MUST, and something we would look
forward to. He made us prep from the previous day. And apart from the Lord's
prayer, each one of us knew some set of prayers that guided us throughout our
life. As we look back, we do appreciate everything that dad taught us,
including spiritual guidance.
STORYTELLER
Dad
was one of those men that worked super crazy. He would leave the house at 5 am
and come back at 8 pm. No matter how tough his day was, every night after
dinner, he had a story to tell. All of us would look forward to them, as they
concluded with some morals we had to share, and each one of us got candy.
Apart
from those, he would narrate his childhood stories, which made us think they
had the most adventurous life growing up. Although it sounded a little
challenging, it felt like ultimate fun. They learned how to be responsible at
an early age, as their parents were always busy.
CHRISTMAS DAY
In
our house, X-mas was so lit and turned out to be quite merry. All our extended
family members would propose to celebrate it at our digs. Dad loved to host and
entertain. So, that was something he would always look forward to and prepare
accordingly. We loved to find an assortment of candies and fizzy drinks. Pop
was a grill master, and everyone loved his delectable grilled steaks.
Come
Xmas; it was not hard to figure out his ideal Christmas present. We bought him
a portable BBQ grill and thought it would be one of the perfect gifts for father in law,
too.
CAMPING
The
first time we camped with my family, I was in grade 5. I was super excited that
I would learn how to assemble a tent, erect posts, and build with canvas. The
idea of sleeping outside was a little bit scary and thrilling at the same time.
As daddy was my superhero, he would rescue me if a creepy animal showed up.
So,
he taught me how to put everything together and erect a tent. One thing we will
never forget was his portable grill that made fantastic BBQs. They were
mouth-watering and paired well with this superb classic sauce that had some
sweetness and spice. It was breathtaking.
In conclusion, the games, the fun, and the experience we had with dad when
growing will forever linger in our minds. Dads may have many stereotypes, such
as mentioned above. If your pop or dad's spouse was a cheesy type, consider
"the very embarrassing book of dad's jokes" as one of the gifts for father-in-law or
your dad.
