We all are having some beautiful artwork with different color threads stitched in pretty patterns on clothing and different accessories. It requires an immense number of skills and patience to craft something. One of the most important things is the embroidery stabilizer. This works literally behind the scenes to provide a stable base for the embroidery on the back of different clothes.
What is Embroidery Stabilizer?
Embroidery stabilizers are very important for machine embroidery and are responsible for making sure that the fabric does not tear off or stretch or shrink during the process of embroidery. It helps to keep the fabric of the cloth intact while you are using some threads for making some embroidery work. Stabilizers are also known as backings because they are placed at the back of the cloth to do the embroidery.
There are different types of stabilizers
available in the market for different clothes and different purposes. You will
come across a lot of people telling you do not spend on the stabilizers and
instead use cheaper substitutes like newspaper, coffee filter paper, and even
papers. These substitutes do not harm the embroidery, but they cause damage to
your sewing machine and its parts. So do not use these alternatives and invest
few amounts on a reliable stabilizer.
What Are The Different Types of Embroidery Stabilizers?
There are 4 types of embroidery stabilizers available in the market and you can choose the best one based on your requirement.
Cut Away embroidery stabilizer: this embroidery stabilizer is suitable for all types of fabrics, and it will remain on the back of the cloth for a lifetime. This prevents the embroidery threads from breaking even after years of using the cloth. It does not tear even when the cloth is twisted or stretched, and the cloth will intact when you stitch on your cloth. This stabilizer is available in white, beige, and black colors.
Tear-away embroidery stabilizer: this embroidery stabilizer cannot be used on stretchy material, knits, and sheer fabrics. This stabilizer got its name because once your embroidery work is done you can place your fingers on the stitches and tear the stabilizer to remove the excess stitches, it’s just like tearing paper from a book. If the embroidery stitching is very tiring, then do not try to remove the stabilizers from underneath as it can cause either the cloth or the threads to tear.
Wash away embroidery stabilizer: these embroidery stabilizers are used when you do not want the stabilizer on the cloth after the embroidery is done. These are easily washed away as soon they become wet, and you can use warm water to clean the stabilizer. These stabilizers are not recommended for fabrics that are not going to be washed. Wash-away stabilizers are available in transparent and mesh material.

As soon as they become hot, they are easy to remove. Make sure, you must know the uses of stabilizer before you use, and you can read their manuals before you use.
If you are unsure which embroidery stabilizer is the best for you, it’s best if you can buy small rolls of different stabilizers and try them on different fabrics and designs.
